Quant workbench for ranking systems, point-in-time backtests and machine-learning stock predictors.
AI Factor trains ML predictors inside your ranking system
Overview
Portfolio123 has been the retail quant's workshop since 2004. You build multi-factor ranking systems, screen stocks and ETFs, backtest rules on point-in-time data and then run the strategy with orders sent to your broker. It covers the US, Canada and Europe with 20 years of test data. The crowd is serious: systematic investors who would rather test an idea than argue about it.
The AI piece is called AI Factor. You pick features, train machine-learning predictors on historical data and get forecasts of relative returns. Those predictions plug straight into ranking systems and simulations, so a model can be tested the same way as any hand-built rule. No code is required, though you need to understand overfitting to use it well.
The catch: this is not a beginner product and not cheap. Third-party listings put the screener tier near $35 a month and full access well into three figures. A 30-day free look at the screener and backtester needs no card. A backtest is a hypothesis, not a promise. Skip it if you want picks handed to you. Use it if you want to build and test your own system.
Pros
- Point-in-time data limits backtest bias
- No-code machine-learning ranking models
- Sends orders to connected brokers
Cons
- Steep learning curve for new users
- Higher tiers cost over $100 a month
