Tick-level US options, stock and index market data API with an MCP server for Claude and other AI tools.
1st, 2nd and 3rd order Greeks on every US option
Overview
Theta Data is a market data vendor for options-focused developers, quants and backtesters. It sells unfiltered US options, stocks, indices and interest rate data with full 1st, 2nd and 3rd order Greeks. It launched in 2022 and is led by founder Bailey Danseglio, with a named engineering and business team.
Access runs through a local Theta Terminal app plus REST, WebSocket, Python and JavaScript SDKs. The AI angle is an MCP server: connect it to Claude Code and ask for things like a strike's end-of-day Greeks in plain English, and it returns the data. Options plans start at $40 a month with 6 years of history, $80 for tick data and 10 years, and $160 for streaming every trade. A free tier exists.
The catch: this is raw data, not analysis. There are no charts, scans or signals, and the MCP server runs through the local terminal app, so you need some technical comfort. Individual plans bar business use. Skip it if you do not write code or you want a finished trading tool.
Pros
- Every OPRA trade and quote, unfiltered
- MCP server for plain-English data pulls
- Free tier, options plans from $40/mo
Cons
- Raw data only, no charts or signals
- Needs a local terminal app running
