AI backtesting platform that turns a plain-English strategy into editable Python and tests it on market history.
Plain-English strategies turned into editable backtest code
Overview
BacktestLoop is a backtesting workbench for traders who want to test an idea before risking a dollar on it. You describe the strategy in plain English and it writes the code. It is built for systematic traders and tinkerers who can read a little Python, and it is known for letting you see and edit every line the AI produces.
The AI agent turns your rules into Backtrader or VectorBT Python, then runs the test in the cloud on stocks, ETFs, futures, forex or crypto. Data goes down to 1-second bars. Each run returns an equity curve, a full trade list, fees, drawdown and logs. You can run variations in parallel, or connect Claude Code, Codex or Cursor through its MCP endpoint and public API. Paid plans add paper trading on live data with virtual funds.
The catch: it does not place real trades, so you still need a broker and a way to execute. It launched in July 2026, has no user reviews yet, and stock history only starts in May 2018. The free tier is 15 starter credits, given once. Paid plans start at $7.99 a month and scale with credits and data depth. Skip it if you want one-click live automation or have no interest in looking at code.
Pros
- Plain English becomes editable Python
- Backtests down to 1-second bars

Cons
- No live trading, paper trading only
- Launched July 2026 with zero reviews

BacktestLoop is a working product, but it is new. It has fewer than 10 reviews on Trustpilot, G2, the App Store and Product Hunt, so there is no public track record yet. We list it because it has a real AI feature, not because it paid us. The biggest drawback we found: No live trading, paper trading only.
