Wealthfolio
Portfolio Manager — Freemium
Open-source investment tracker that keeps your data on your own device, with an AI assistant and MCP server.
Private, local-first open-source portfolio tracking
Overview
Wealthfolio is a portfolio tracker for people who do not want their finances sitting in someone else's cloud. It is open source, stores its database on your device and needs no account. It runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android, or on your own server. It is known for privacy and a large open-source following, with more than 9,000 GitHub stars.
The free app tracks holdings, performance, allocation, dividends and net worth, and benchmarks you against the S&P 500 or any ETF. It adds spending and budgets, a retirement planner with a Monte Carlo simulation and a rebalancing view that shows drift from your targets. The AI assistant answers questions about your own portfolio. An MCP server lets Claude, Cursor or another agent read your holdings and performance through access tokens you scope and can revoke, read-only by default.
The catch: free means manual. You enter trades or import CSV files. Automatic broker sync comes with the paid Connect plans, from $2.99 a month for device sync and $7.99 for brokerage imports through SnapTrade. On that tier the AI needs your own API key, and the built-in assistant with no key sits on the top plan. This is a tracker, not a stock picker. If you want trade ideas, skip it.
Pros
- Core app is free and open source
- Data stays on your own device
- Desktop, mobile and self-hosted versions
Cons
- Broker sync needs a paid Connect plan
- Tracks a portfolio, gives no stock picks
